I think it is increasingly difficult to have a conversation about politics. People care very passionately about their causes and candidates and, unfortunately, I usually see it devolve into nastiness. I'm not sure if things have always been this polarized or if it has increased as our culture has increased.

I used to register as non-partisan. I don't think you can officially register like that now, here in California. You have to pick a party and I'm not inclined to pick any one group over another. I've done that since I was 18. For some reason, I've felt like it "pinned" me down and I've always been resistant to that idea. (Sorry... veering off topic)

The last couple of election cycles, I have been to disgusted with the campaigning and ads that I have shut out as much as possible. I should probably head over to Fact Check because I think that could help me make my decision. But how sad is it that a site like that is necessary? I get upset when we are presented with people who say they ought to be the leaders of my country but, as part of their quest to get the positions, they distort the facts. Ugh!

On paper, I can deal with either candidate, I think. People I know would day that the more important thing to consider when choosing is judicial appointments that will be made during that person's tenure. Apparently that is one of the ways that a significant impact is made.

I grew up in a conservative Democratic family living in a Republican county. I think I have such a blend of the two in me. I will always adore a social program, but have grown to learn that what comes with the intent isn't always helpful... beauracracy, etc., but I've never been comfortable with letting the private sector alone provide relief for people. I'm somewhat conservative on those "moral" issues, but am not that comfortable legislating it to death. So... I don't fit in anywhere! What's a voter to do?

Oh, and here is a website my SIL found with tons and tons of links for you:

<a href="http://lib11.library.vanderbilt.edu/diglib/godort.pl?searchtext=Election2008&Type=Simple&Resource=DB&Website=FDTF" rel="nofollow">Election 2008</a>

This kind of turned into its own post. I'm sorry if I hijacked it! Thanks for your attitude though. It is refreshing to read an honest, humble and open opinion that values the humanity of either side.
