An Update: Yoga Training and Art Exhibit

After a few days of not writing it’s always harder for me to get my thoughts out… So, I find myself staring at the screen unsure of what to write or where to start…

I feel like there’s a lot to write about in regards to what has happened to me since I wrote last and the things I have experienced… There are two big things that happened in my life this weekend. First, I started my yoga teacher training program and had the first session (made up of three 9+ hour days). I don’t know where to begin in telling you all about this first weekend session. It was an experience of dichotomies – it was exciting and scary, it was encouraging and frustrating, it was challenging and easier than I expected, it was wonderful and also incredibly difficult. This first session we worked on sun salutations and proper alignment and adjusting for a few common poses. We also learned about and spent a good deal of time in meditation and breathing exercises. But, it felt like the majority of our time this first session was spent talking about yoga philosophy and yoga history, which was actually really interesting. I learned a ton of stuff that I didn’t know and met a lot of very interesting, friendly and open people. I am really looking forward to the next session and to what might come from this experience in the future.

The second big happening in my life this weekend was that we had our first meeting to talk about the art exhibit idea that I had for Advent. I shared a little about this idea on this blog, HERE. I have had a number of people express interest in participating in this and making it happen and so on Sunday we had a meeting and discussed what this project might look like. We decided to have the theme be LIGHT, and have all the art work portray light in some way. I’m really excited about this theme because I feel like it fits in well with advent and it also has a lot of creative potential. We also spent a good deal of time talking about other logistics of making this event happen and I felt good about where we came out on things. There’s still a long way to go and a lot of work to be done to make this dream of putting on an art exhibit a reality, but I feel like we are well on our way to making it happen.

Both of these are things I’m really excited about. I feel like both meet needs in my spirit and both fit well with who I really am. With both I feel that God was directing me and leading me to do them and I feel that there is potential for a lot of growth and for future projects and partnerships to come out of them. I am excited to see what will happen. Both of these things are also going to take up a lot of my time in the coming months and both require some financial investment on my part during a time when finances are uncertain for my husband and I. But, I believe strongly that God has called me to this yoga program and that He has called me to organize this art exhibit, so, I am trusting that he will provide.

Anyway, those were the two big things going on in my life this weekend, but this doesn’t nearly scratch the surface of all that was going on in me throughout the last few days… maybe I’ll get to some of that in the next post… maybe not, we’ll see.
